A Lincolnshire used car dealer was jailed for 12 months at Lincoln Crown Court on three different charges. Used car dealer Mark Drury (45) of Garfield House, 65 Garfitts Lane, Boston, at Lincoln Crown Court, was jailed for supplying an unsafe car, perverting the course of justice by pretending to be Trading Standards officer and attempting to remove evidence. It is designed by trading standards and consumer law professionals, in collaboration with business, to provide you with clear, accurate and practical advice. Trading standards experts have been working with the motor industry to get answers to some of the most complained about issues concerning used car sales. The guidance follows one of the biggest shake-ups of consumer law, in a generation, which among other things makes it clear on the exact time limits customers have to reject cars and gain a refund. The guide, titled Car Traders and Consumer Law, which is written by legal and trading standards experts, focusses on the rules governing the sale of used cars in the UK. Around two million used cars are sold every year in the UK, and a third of all car buyers seriously consider purchasing a used car over a new one. Car complaints remain amongst the highest kind lodged with consumer protection bodies. How to complain about a second-hand car not fit for purpose. Caveat in the law. Surprising to me is that if you buy a used car from a dealership that was NOT described (advertised) as being in a good or excellent condition or good working order, and it develops mechanical issues soon after purchase, you do NOT have rights to claim compensation or reject the vehicle for a refund. Some dealerships and garages have signed up to a Trading Standards backed code of practice that means if your dispute isn't getting anywhere you can refer it to an impartial third party to resolve it - the Motor Ombudsman. You can find all of the information you need on the Motor Ombudsman's website.
